Staff at Bermans Fundraise For Liverpool Charity, Paul's Place — A Cause Close To Their Hearts, By Taking Part In The Liverpool Santa Dash
Staff at North West law firm Bermans have gone the extra mile to raise over £4,000 for a Merseyside charity in 2024.
Their efforts have been in support of Paul’s Place, a specialist counselling service for people bereaved by suicide.
Paul’s Place, which is part of the Liverpool-based Beacon Counselling Trust, is Bermans’ nominated charity.
The firm, which has offices in Liverpool and Manchester, has a strong association with the organisation, following the loss of a much-loved staff member in 2022.
Fund-raising activities by Bermans this year have included taking part in the Liverpool Santa Dash and the 10km Great Manchester Run, and a raffle at the firm’s Beaujolais event in November for clients and contacts.
Bermans is part of MAPD Group, which was founded by Brian Cullen and Joanna Kingston-Davies in 2020 to power the growth of local law firms nationally through acquisition. The initials stand for Making a Positive Difference.
“We have an extremely strong association with Paul’s Place, as we sadly lost a much-loved colleague in 2022. It provides much-needed support for those struggling following the loss of a loved one, and is our nominated charity.” - Melanie Morris, Bermans Partner & Head of Property Finance.
Among those who took part in the Santa Dash were Bermans Partner and Head of Property Finance Melanie Morris, Paralegal Rachael Murphy, Trainee Solicitor Shona Jones and Office Manager Kathy Daniels.
They were joined by members of the wider MAPD team, including Michelle Heath and Mairi Probin.
Bermans has also helped a number of other good causes during the year. The firm supports youth charity OnSide, whose centres include The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead and the Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham.
Bermans is a patron of the Mahdlo Youth Zone, and staff gave up their time to volunteer to help the charity prepare for Christmas as well as collecting gifts for its festive appeal and food and pyjamas for its hampers.
The firm sponsored a drinks event held by Liverpool Ladies Network in July in support of The Hive Youth Zone and took part in the charity’s summer football tournament.
Bermans Partner and Head of Property Finance, Melanie Morris, said: “We have an extremely strong association with Paul’s Place, as we sadly lost a much-loved colleague in 2022. It provides much-needed support for those struggling following the loss of a loved one, and is our nominated charity.”
She said:“We’re pleased to have raised a significant sum for them during 2024 and look forward to providing further support in 2025.”
Melanie added: “Brian and Joanna have a really strong connection with the purpose of The Hive Youth Zone, and OnSide as a whole. The charity gives young people somewhere safe to go, something positive to do, and someone trusted to talk to and empower them to help build their resilience, skills, ambition and knowledge for adult life.”
Melanie concluded: “There is a strong and clear connection with our values and our commitment to creating opportunities and a positive environment for neurodiverse people to build a successful career.”
