The school, which is based on Storrington Avenue, welcomed six primary school choirs from across Liverpool to take part, spread the Christmas cheer, and put their singing skills to the test.

St John Bosco’s very own talented school choir set the atmosphere for the day, opening the event with a beautiful rendition of Under the Mistletoe.

The heart-warming event welcomed pupils from Emmaus Church of England & Catholic Primary, St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School, Our Lady and St Swithin’s Catholic Primary School, St Bridgid’s Catholic Primary, Leamington Community Primary School and Monksdown Primary School then took to the stage one by one to perform a festive song of their choice.

'At Bosco, we value community, so to host an event involving so many local schools whilst also celebrating Christmas has been a delight. We are pleased that the event was a big success.' - Mr Darren Gidman, Headteacher of St John Bosco Arts College.

Songs included Sleigh Ride, Merry Christmas (War is Over), Walking in the Air, Where Are You Christmas, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, That’s Christmas to Me and even a festive-themed medley.

Host and event organiser, Claire Wharmby, transition co-ordinator at St John Bosco, has spearheaded several events in partnership with local and feeder primary schools.

Judging the competition was Christine Finnigan, who is head of music at the school.

With exciting entertainment from the local primary schools, a dazzling dance and a fantastic closing performance from the cast of St John Bosco’s current school production: Sister Act Jr, the day was a huge success that brought together many staff and students.

Ultimately, Emmaus Church of England and Catholic Primary School choir was crowned winners of the competition following an incredible medley that consisted of Let it Go from Disney’s Frozen, Last Christmas by Wham, and Let it Snow by Dean Martin.

Headteacher of St John Bosco Arts College, Mr Darren Gidman, said: 'At Bosco, we value community, so to host an event involving so many local schools whilst also celebrating Christmas has been a delight. We are pleased that the event was a big success.'

Mr Gidman added: 'Congratulations to Emmaus Church of England and Catholic Primary School on a spectacular performance! We would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part, including all pupils in the primary choirs who rehearsed extremely hard, our own Bosco students and the staff members who helped to make this wonderful event happen. We look forward to coming together with local schools for further opportunities next year.'
