REVIEW: The UK Tour Of Kay Mellor's The Syndicate Is In Full Swing, With The Acclaimed Story Paying A Visit To The Floral Pavilion Theatre In New Brighton

The story, originally written by Kay Mellor OBE for BBC One, follows a group of supermarket employees who face the closure of their store, with each of them having their own burdens, and some in desperate need of financial support. With some of them making plans to quickly increase their bank balance, could the timing be wrong when they strike the luck of Mercury Millions with the right numbers? The play was a great adaptation of the first television series of BBC's The Syndicate. It is a really great treat for fans of the TV programme to experience the characters they know and love brought to life so vividly on stage, whilst also catering to newcomers to the works of Kay Mellor in one of her finest pieces of writing. The Syndicate's theatre adaption features a fantastic array of vivid, three-dimensional characters, with the cast doing great service to the beloved works that set off a titan franchise running for four series on prime-time television.

A particularly special note for the acting prowess should go to William Ilkley and Benedict Shaw for their raw and gritty performances together that heightened the emotions of the story unfolding. As well as Jerome Ngonadi for his sleuthing skills that kept the audience on their toes.

Excellent use of set design and staging enhanced the storytelling opportunities with multiple scenes being able to run seamlessly and, at times, simultaneously.
