Commenting on the collaboration, Jamie Shaw, CEO at Shawton Energy, said: 'Supporting clients with their green agenda is something we’re proud to be involved in.'

He added: 'We have a deep understanding of solar within warehousing and food manufacturing sites and can provide tailored, innovative solutions for businesses committed to a greener future.'

The solar installation will contribute to Princes’ 2030GreenGoals initiative, which outlines the Group’s ambition to become a carbon-neutral manufacturing business across its UK and international operations by 2030.

With a global supply network, a portfolio of household favourite brands and a leading position in the manufacture of customer own label products, Princes is one of the UK’s largest food and drink groups.

Etablished as a seafood importing business in 1880, Princes specialises in sourcing and manufacturing quality products, with a vision to 'Proudly offer great tasting choices for everyone, without costing the Earth'. As a leading international grocery supplier, millions of consumers across the UK and Europe enjoy Princes Group brands and products every day.

Headquartered in its original home city of Liverpool, Princes Group operates seven manufacturing sites in and around the UK, producing food, edible oils and soft drinks. The company also operates international facilities for processing tomatoes (Italy), tuna (Mauritius) and oils (Poland), with commercial sites across the globe.

Princes manufactures hundreds of different food and drink products under private label and the Group’s owned brands. These include the iconic Princes brand, Napolina, the UK’s number one Italian cooking brand, and British soup producer, Crosse & Blackwell, among others.

The Group also manufactures and distributes branded products under licence, such as Branston Beans, Olivio oil and Swizzles squash. Princes sources quality ingredients from over 40 countries, works with 600 raw material suppliers and employs around 7,000 people around the world.

The company, which is based at Newton-le-Willows in the Liverpool City Region, and employs 200 people, aims to deliver more than £100 Million worth of investment into high-quality rooftop solar energy projects over the next three years.

Late in 2023, Shawton Energy went into co-ownership with Lazard Asset Management – the respected global investment business – to drive the roll-out of fully funded solar photovoltaic (PV) projects for industrial and commercial clients across the UK.

Jamie, continued: 'Mounting pressure and expectation from retailers and consumers is also driving sustainable supply chain practices forward.'

In December 2023, 10 major grocery retailers – including Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and Asda – partnered with Manufacture 2030 to help speed up supply chain decarbonisation.

Jamie added: 'As more major supermarkets look to decrease their value chain emissions, and reduce their environmental footprint, Scope 3 Emissions will continue to become a bigger topic for food manufacturers and the sites where they operate.'

He said: 'Working with businesses such as Knowles Logistics, demonstrates how, in partnership, Shawton can deliver large-scale solutions that deliver outstanding results.'

Jamie, said: 'We look forward to growing our relationship with Knowles and continuing to establish ourselves as market leaders in delivering end-to-end food and drink solar solutions'.
