A new café and community hub in St Helens has “started as it means to go on”, by  helping care-leavers and local families in need at a free festive lunch and Christmas gift giveaway attended by almost 100 people on Saturday the 21st of December.

The new Remarkable Outcomes Community Hub hosted the well-attended festive  event, at which toys, toiletries, stocking fillers, sleepwear and selection boxes donated  by families of staff and directors of the business were given to local families in need.

Remarkable Outcomes is a Liverpool-based residential care and supported living  provider offering vulnerable young people support from the age of 8 through to 25, with an emphasis on therapeutic approaches to support, education and employment.

On the site of the former Charcoal Grill on the corner of Claughton Street and College  Street, the community café will offer food, beverages and a welcoming and affordable place to meet and relax and provide real-life work experience those living on-site.

Supported living aims to provide a platform for 18-25-year-old care-leavers to achieve  their potential through education, training and support, and the Remarkable Outcomes  Hub is scheduled to open its doors in early 2025 to care-leavers from across the UK.

“In total we were able to help more than 20 families directly through the event at the hub, and members of our senior management team have already followed up with presents and supermarket vouchers for those identified as having additional needs.” - Lee Bloomberg, Managing Director and Co-owner of Remarkable Outcomes.

Lee Bloomberg, Managing Director and Co-owner of Remarkable Outcomes, said:  “Some of the feedback really touched me – our event evidently made a huge difference  to people who were genuinely anxious about the costs involved in Christmas.”

He added: “While our team was getting the new community hub ready, we heard countless stories  from distraught parents worried they might not be able to provide presents for their  families and we wanted to be there in some small way to help alleviate that worry.”

Lee, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped get the venue ready, all those who attended on the day, and those who generously donated toys and gifts."

Lee added: “In total we were able to help more than 20 families directly through the event at the hub, and members of our senior management team have already followed up with presents and supermarket vouchers for those identified as having additional needs.”

Toys and gifts were delivered ahead of the event to care-leavers with their own young  families, and just highlights the need for continuity of support and wraparound care.

Any food and selection boxes left over on Saturday went to local foodbanks, with  wrapped toys and gifts going to Alder Hey children's hospital and Zoe's Place hospice.

“The important thing about this pre-Christmas event was for people to meet us in a relaxed setting and letting the St Helens community know that our doors will soon be open, welcoming and willing to help once 2025 gets under way.” - Michael McMahon, Remarkable Outcomes Co-owner and Director of Care and  Education.

Michael McMahon, Remarkable Outcomes Co-owner and Director of Care and  Education, said: “This festive event was a way to signal that we are starting as  we mean to go on, by giving something back to the local community. Saturday was a  great example of how we can bridge the gaps in our communities simply by offering a  space for people to share their situations and stories without shame or stigma.”

He added: “We were delighted to be able to help those who turned up ensure there are gifts under  the tree at Christmas, and some we will continue to support as we move forward in the  new year – in a variety of areas such as employment, education, training and income.”

Michael said: “The important thing about this pre-Christmas event was for people to meet us in a relaxed setting and letting the St Helens community know that our doors will soon be open, welcoming and willing to help once 2025 gets under way.”

He added: “When the Remarkable Outcomes Hub opens early in the new year, we will have a  core team of dedicated support workers on site, and our senior management team will  also oversee the hub and will offer additional support services and professional advice.”

He said: “We are one of many organisations that provide support to those in need and believe the best way to do this is through collaboration. There can sometimes be a disconnect  between public and private-sector providers, but we’re really not in competition at all.”

Michael concluded: “While not contracted by St Helens Borough Council, we were pleased a representative from their commissioning team attended on Saturday and hope we can work together in a spirit of collaboration in identifying and supporting a range of needs going forward.”
