A Brief History Of The Cavern Club To Celebrate It Opening 68 Years Ago Today

The Cavern Club first opened its doors today 68 years ago at 10 Mathew Street, on the 16th of January, 1957. Owner, Alan Sytner took inspiration from the Parisian jazz club, Le Caveau De La Huchette.


“The Beatles” first played there on Thursday the 9th of February, 1961. The band's initial lineup at the Club consisted of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Stuart Sutcliffe, George Harrison, and Pete Best.


Despite the line-up changing, they played a total of 292 times at The Cavern Club.


The Cavern Club is now internationally renowned and even has a City Centre neighbourhood named after it, The Cavern Quarter.
